From Idea to Multinational: My Star Network Conference by Rasheed Ridwan
The Star network conference is an exposure conference on innovation and entrepreneurship designed for tertiary institution across Nigeria, the goal of the conference is to create the new face of entrepreneurs that will solve Africa’s teeming problem and improve her economy, I was invited to be deliver a keynote speech on tapping into opportunities in the university ecosystem. Despite all odds, fever, tight schedule and other obligation I dragged myself down to inspire the audience.
I opened the eye of the students to what exactly their student year is, I explain the undergrad year as a test bed to try out a lot of things to fail, succeed, and fail again until they understand failure and success.
I added that seizing the greatest opportunities they have which is very little responsibilities, access to internet and learning opportunities and also being largely financial dependent on parents or guardians.
Using my story, Samson Abioye and how Jobberman started I taught them how to move from ideas to multinationals, opining that Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t so that you can spend the rest of your life the way other people can’t. Ideas are not fully formed as Mark Zuck said, the reason why a lot of people will not doing anything is that they complain and give excuses, instead of starting and learn their way through.
Other speakers include Dr. Jubril Salaudeen the COO at Citiserve, who has being an amazing Facebook friend for a while, Comrade Ahmed Ojikutu, the President Computer Allied Product Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN) Prof Ayotola Aremu, the Director Centre for Entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of Ibadan and other noted speakers.
After ending my session amid applause and I turn to live, about people walked and told me they are about to take their idea and build into a multinational, I was so excited, what we say, what we do are defining some people’s life.
